A Grade II listed building was built by the eminent physicist and civil engineer John Smeaton as part of his work for the Calder & Hebble Navigation Company. The building became known as the Salt Warehouse because, unsurprisingly, it was used to store salt. Tony Watkins was looking open a restaurant that would compliment his successful outside catering company Food4Thought Catering. The initial stage of this project was to create an identity for Salt Bar and Grill. The humble beginnings were important factors for the vision, influenced by architecture, industrial warehouse typography all combined with the provincial menu offerings. After the identity was established the site was designed echoing all of the initial influences. This was designed whilst working at Propeller Communications.
